Realities of 1905

Last night, Allyson and I watched almost six straight hours of the PBS show Manor House .

We love watching shows like 1900 House and Frontier House, where 21st-Century people "travel back in time" to live, work, and play as people did years ago.

(the servants)

Manor House was set in Edwardian-era England. The targeted time was from about 1905-1911, the Turn of the Century. The house, Manderston, was in the English countryside near Edinburgh, Newcastle. The house was grand and the gardens were very nifty.
The most interesting part of the series were the people. There were the "upstairs" people or the Masters and then there were the "downstairs" people or the servants. Watching all the interaction between the social classes was very interesting as the modern people coped with their life status. It was especially hard for the servants as they had no rights at the time and the 21st-century people were very dissatisfied with their relationship with their master and the stifling life of a servant. Through many of the issues that were dealt with on the show, it is easy to see how the type of life went out of style. As the world moved into the 20Th-century, social equality became important around the world. I think it is interesting to see how different cultures and nations around the world can change with the times, while others hold on to past tradition, whether or not they benefit the society.
This show was very entertaining, but also shined a light on the importance of treating others as I would want to be treated.

Show-Time!

I'm going even further back into July with this post!

A few weeks ago, We went to see my friend, Jessica in her Choir's musical, Jesus Christ Superstar.

She was fabulous and we really enjoyed watching her perform!

Later, I went home with Sarah and ate cookies, laughed at Pride and Prejudice, and made crazy videos. It was grand.
And..the next morning we went to see this little guy:

It was a sweet movie with a great ending and I'd highly recommend it!

Celebrating...

Why not post this Wednesday about something that happened last Wednesday!?

To celebrate several graduations, all the girl's from
the history co-op that we attended, gathered for a little party. All but three of us, are now graduated and are already in college or will be leaving this fall.

Here we are!

We gathered at Sweet Tomatoes for lunch, then headed over to the Miller's for ice cream cake:

We had quite a time trying to cut the frozen hard cake, sooo what's a girl to do?

Why blow-dry it of course!

It was delicious, I love cake! :c)

We opened gifts and cards, talked about college stuff and watch a slideshow Emily and Jessica made for the graduates. It was lovely. Emily, Leah, and Leslie will be leaving this fall and I am sad. I'm looking forward to holiday breaks!

Love you, girls!

Noooooo!!!!

I do have reasons to be grateful:

1. I DO have money to buy it

2. It's not a insanely expensive math or science book!

The best reason?

3. I can sell it back!!!!

All I Have Is Christ

But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. And leaping up he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.

Oh the Deep, Deep Love

A beautiful song from the newest CD from Sovereign Grace: Come Weary Saints.
Oh the deep, deep love of Jesus
Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free
Rolling as a mighty ocean
In its fullness over me
Underneath me, all around me
Is the current of Your love
Leading onward, leading homeward
To Your glorious rest above

Oh the deep, deep love
All I need and trust
Is the deep, deep love of Jesus

Oh the deep, deep love of Jesus
Spread His praise from shore to shore
How He came to pay our ransom
Through the saving cross He bore
How He watches o’er His loved ones
Those He died to make His own
How for them He’s interceding
Pleading now before the throne

Oh the deep, deep love of Jesus
Far surpassing all the rest
It’s an ocean full of blessing
In the midst of every test
Oh the deep, deep love of Jesus
Mighty Savior, precious Friend
You will bring us home to glory
Where Your love will never end
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
- 1 John 3:1

Summer Daze

How's Summer treatin' ya? I love wearing shorts and summery dresses!

This summer I am taking some classes at the college. I have an 8 am speech class and a history class online. I take my class on campus four days a week for two hours. It's been pretty neat, I don't LOVE public speaking, but I find enjoyment in it sometimes :c) I'm also working which I'm really enjoying. Sadly, some of my co-workers are leaving for college and summer vacation, I'm going miss them! We've been training several new people and they're a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to working with them.

Taylor and Michael have been enjoying their summer. They love the water and despite Michael's reluctance to put his head under the water, they both try to go swimming as much as possible! They went swimming three times this week! I still think the smaller schoolwork load is their favorite part of summer :c)

Allyson and Chris have been busy this summer too! They are both volunteering at a local hospital four hours a week. They get a chance to experience and working and different parts of the hospital from the ER to the Maternity center. Allyson has really enjoyed working the the Maternity area, she's gotten the chance to hold some newborns! Chris is also taking a class at the college. He says his English 1302 class is pretty easy. Allyson has also been blogging, check her out!

I'm looking forward to this weekend. I want to catch up on some reading and I get to hang out with some friends from church on Saturday. What are you up to this weekend?

Much Love,

Adrienne Renea

Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man? The steadfast love of God endures all the day.

Graduation and New Attitude! Recap and Photos!!

What a busy couple of weeks this has been!

First off was my graduation on the 17th! It was wonderful. The ceremony was very nice and I was so blessed by all the people that came to see me "walk across" the stage and then later came and helped my celebrate at my house! I'm so grateful to all the families that came and served and made my graduation celebration a great time!

After graduation I had a week 'til the New Attitude Conference. So I got some time to sleep and read.
On Friday, the 23rd. We attended the graduation of my friend, Leslie. We had a great time rooting her on and the ceremony was very cool. I'd never been to a private school graduation before and I really enjoyed the speaker. And there was cake!! ( ok, I'm really loving cake these days, especially if it has lots of frosting)

Next was Saturday, the weekend I'd been looking forward to since this time last year!!! My flight left in the afternoon and I got the privilege to be on the same plane with my roommates.
It was so exciting to see downtown Louisville full of New Attitude stuff and people! Over the next four days, We got to instructed and most importantly, challenged by Josh Harris, Mark Dever, Al Mohler, CJ Mahaney, Eric Simmons, and John Piper.

One message that really impacted me was Mr. Mahaney's sermon entitled: The Troubled Soul: God's Words and Our Feelings. Mr. Mahaney made a point that many times we listen to our souls instead of talking to them. He went on to explain that we are one of our biggest influences. Instead of listening to our sinful selves, we must go to His Word and minister to our souls with the promises that He gives us in his Word. One of my favorite quotes :"When we cannot trace God's hand, we must trust God's Heart". This message also challenged me to memorize Psalms 42, this chapter ends with hope in Christ in troubles time,

Verse 11:Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise Him,
my salvation and my God.

The weekend was full of reconnecting several old friends and it was a pleasure to spend sometime with some people from several of the Sovereign Grace Churches in Texas. I got to see some friends, whom I had not seen since 2002 at another Sovereign Grace Conference. I was so great seeing them after so many years!

Kierstyn:

Mindy:

I also got to reconnect with people I met last year at Fusion!

The time of worship was amazing, and I was going to upload a video I took during one of the session, but it's not working! I'll try again later. I bought the new New Attitude band's new cd Looked Upon, which contained many songs that we sang at Na. The lyrics are very Gospel Centered and the sound is very keen. :c)
I was soo blessed by my time there and this is not the end of my post about my experience there. I hope to blog more soon on several points of application I was challenged on and some reviews of some books and cds I bought in the very cool New Attitude bookstore. I am eagerly looking forward to how God will continue to challenge me by what I received at the conference. I can't wait til Na 2009 in Baltimore!

Na!

New Attitude is in two days!!

I'm sooo excited about what God is going to do there!

I'm also pretty excited about traveling, rooming, and hanging out with her, her and her :c)

This is my first time at the New Attitude Conference. I've listen to Na messages , heard from attendees and read magazine articles for years. Now its finally my turn to go! I'm so grateful to God for allowing me the opportunity to go and experience New Attitude. I've never heard Josh Harris and John Piper and several of the other speakers live before, so I'm really stoked about hear them preach on the Word of God! I also feel so fortunate be be able to be in the company of so many like-minded young adults!

Pray for the Chapmans

Please keep the Chapman family in your prayers as they go through this tragedy:

From The Tennessean:
One of contemporary Christian music star Steven Curtis Chapman’s six children was killed this afternoon when she was struck by a car said to be driven by her teenage brother in the driveway of the family’s Williamson County home.
The child, Maria, age 5, was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt Hospital, which confirmed the death, according to Laura McPherson, a spokeswoman for the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
She was hit by an SUV driven by her teenage brother, she said. Police did not give the driver’s name.
The teen was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser down the driveway of the rural home at about 5:30 p.m. and several children were playing in the area, McPherson said. He did not see the 5-year-old in the driveway before the vehicle struck her, she said.

God, please be with the Chapman family as they grieve and let them feel Your presence. Fill them with peace that comes only from You.

Class of 2008!

A little over a week ago, we got to celebrate the graduation of two of my very close friends.

After partying the night before, we attended the homeschool ceremony, which was pretty neat. I'm so blessed to have Kiana and Cassia in my life, they are both dear friends who I have had the pleasure of growing with them spiritually .

Kiana and Cassia: I love you both and I pray that as we move on to bigger things that our friendship and relationship with the Lord would just grow stronger!

One Step At A Time..

Ok, I think the best way to get back into this blogging thing is to take little baby "post" steps, I'm not going to post one loooog update, just a little at a time.

The place I think is best to start is: {drum rolls} Finals are over! It's been a tough last couple of weeks, especially in Honors English. I have been working this semester on a White Paper titled:"The Future of Conservative Leadership". A White Paper is a name for a paper that argues a specific position or solution to a problem. My paper explored the history of Conservatives in American politics and then provided some recommendations for improving Conservative leadership in the future. This has been one of the most challenging projects. Last Friday, I presented my paper at the Cy-Fair Student Symposium, I was extremely nervous, but I got through it. I'm just glad it's ALL over!

Graduation is just a week away and my anticipation is growing! I'm so glad, that I'm having the opportunity to participate in a ceremony with my friends and other homeschoolers. I'm so grateful to my family, especially my incredible mother, for the way they have been working to get everything ready for the celebration!

Yesterday, a few seniors from my "graduating class" decided to hang out yesterday, so we went to the lunch and the movies. I got the privilege to see Expelled. This movie provided an alternative view to the fight between Intelligent Design and Evolution. Though the movie did not take a stand on a particular view, it explored American Science and the way that views that questioned Darwin's Evolution were given no creditability. The idea that stood out most to me was the fact that many scientist that pushed evolution believed that one could believe in evolution and still believe in God, but this movie exposed the stories of many evolutionist who turned their back on the faith as a result of exploring and believing in Evolution. My little review doesn't do it justice. So get some buddies and go see it!
More blogging coming soon!

Adrienne Renea

Graduation Goodies!

Today, we visited the Graduation Store with my graduation group to get fitted for caps and gowns. It was a long process, we have about 20 graduates and it was a small store! So I spent the time visiting with some friends from debate. I really lucked out to be able to graduate with so many of my friends from debate.

We got to choose the color of our tassels, so I started with blue and brown, but sadly, they didn't have it. Then I tried pink and brown..no...black and pink? No. Ahhh...oh well! I ended up with light blue and white...ahh...I was trying to be unique! Oh well...I'm happy with end results!

Hello!

So I haven't done any real "updating" blogging in a while so here goes:

Graduation things are coming together: we've got invitations coming in. They look like this ---------->

This Friday, Mrs. Axelson will be taking my senior pictures along with Kiana and Cassia, who are graduating this year.
Allyson is sitting next to me brainstorming ideas for the reception after the graduation and scrapbooking. She likes planning and she comes up with some creative ideas!

March madness has been very entertaining. I was rooting for both Memphis and Texas in the Sweet Sixteen, momentaily forgetting if they both won, they would have to play each other! Happily, they both won! Unfortunantly, I had to choose between the "home team" : Texas or my Dad's favorite and my Mom's alma mater: Memphis. Well Memphis won out quite easily, I've been a fan of theirs for several years and there are personal ties. So today I proudly wore my Memphis basketball jersey as Texas was soundly beat by the Memphis Tigers!

On another note, Allyson's favorite team(I admit, I had a soft spot for them too!) and Tournament Cinderella story, Davidson, narrowly lost to Kansas. It's been a great tournament and it contunially is a testament to the fact that NCAA basketball is much more exciting than NBA!

Chris has been cooking around here. He really into finding new things to cook and bake! Last month he made a Peanut Butter Cheesecake. It was fabulous! It tasted like something from The Cheesecake Factory! For the Superbowl he made a wonderful beef stew and a couple of weeks ago, baked some pork chops. He's become quite a chef! For dinner today he made roasted chicken, mint and onion peas, and roasted potatoe wedges. Ah, it was good! Great Job, Chris!

School and work are going well. English homework is kinda heavy, but all our smaller assignments will culminate in to a big portfolio/research paper at the end of the semester. Only 5 weeks 'til Finals!!! YAAY!

I'm loving my job. It's so wonderful to work with kids. Every work day brings some interesting happenings and its so rewarding to see kids learn! My co-worker are awesome and they make any rough days, smooth. I look forward to one day having kids of my own to teach!

Well there's always some kind of homework assignment due, so I better hop to it and go find out what's coming up for the week!

Christ is the Great Light of the World! He has opened our eyes and given us new life! Hallelujah!

Happy Easter!

Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.
-Romans 6:8-10

Announcing.....

My sister, Allyson's blog!
In Such A Way

Friday, March 14, 2008

Ah, Friday!

It's been a pretty slow week here. Chris and I are on Spring Break from the college. Nevertheless, there is plenty to do at home!
I have several assignments due in English next week, so I've been working on them. In the next few weeks I'll be getting mid-term grades, so I am anxiously awaiting those!
Graduation is coming up fast, so I've been looking at things pertaining to that. I've decided on invitations and I'm working towards starting a scrapbook. I'll be taking senior pictures in the next couple of weeks.
My graduation ceremony is May 17, I'll be graduating with a home school group. I'm not sure about the exact number of graduates, but it won't be more than 10-15. So it'll be nice and small and SHORT! I enjoy the smaller graduations, they are a lot more personal.

This weekend I'm going shopping, trying to find some things for graduation and maybe some summer clothes? It was HOT today!! The high was 80! That's pretty warm considering I was wearing a jacket and sweater last weekend.

I'm so glad its Friday, even if it does bring me close to the beginning of another week. I like school, but I'm particularly anxious for finals to come and graduation!
Tonight I went out to dinner with a bunch of friends. It was great catching up with people I haven't seen forever. I love those girls!
This year is so different, people I saw all the time last year, I never see! Instead I'm out of the house more and come in contact with so many different people. Mostly, very different from friends and adults I grew up around. I'm learning a lot. My relationship with God has grown, I have had to hold His Hand tighter. Being around non-Christians wasn't something I did much when I was younger. Now, I'm always seeking God's will on how I may be light to those who are walking this earth without the knowledge of Jesus Christ. I'm am continually reminded of the grace of God in my life! How precious the Cross is to me!

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of Glory died
My richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride

See from his head, his hands, his feet
Sorrow and love flow mingled down
Did ever such love and sorrow meet
Or thorns compose so rich a crown

O the wonderful cross, O the wonderful cross
Bids me come and die and find that I may truly live
O the wonderful cross, O the wonderful cross
All who gather here by grace draw near and bless
Your name

Love always,
Adrienne Renea

Worship Concert

On Saturday, Allyson, my friend Sarah and I went to see Phil Wickham in Concert at a church near my house. We're fans of his acoustic worship music and gospel-centered lyrics. The concert was less "concert" but more a time of worship. It was wonderful! Phil Wickham is a very gifted worship leader. We look forward to seeing him again, the next time he is in town!

New Gadget!

Graduation is a little over two months away, but I got a present a little earlier!

My parents bought me a Dell Inspiron 1525 for my graduation present! It's awesome!

Pray for My Grandma!

Hello all!
I've come to my neglected blog to ask for your prayers.

Last night we found out that my grandma(my mother's mom) will be having open heart surgery today.

As some of you may know, my grandma has been dealing with health issues in regards to her kidneys. She is on dialysis and sometimes that can cause complications.

They found some blockage in one of her arteries and unable to clear it by other means, they decided to operate.

Please pray for the surgery today and her recovery!

Thank you loads!

much love,
Adrienne Renea

EDIT(3/1):The surgery has been moved to this Monday. Thanks for your prayers!
